School Board Candidates
We can keep arguing online about what's broken, or we can be a part of the change.
I'm Phil Lloyd II, and I'm running for the DPSCD Community District School Board.
I didn't grow up in this district. But my wife did and everything she is today, the advocate and literacy champion she's become, was shaped in these schools.
My daughter will walk the same halls. This district isn't an abstraction to me. It's my family's foundation, and I intend to protect it.
My background is in food and beverage vendor contracts, quality standards, safety compliance, supply chain management. Over the past 20 years I have gained valuable experience leading teams in hospitality and customer service.
Throughout the course of my career, I have effectively managed and oversaw various teams, supervising 200+ employees while managing all aspects of the business from HR functions to financial reports.
That's not a resume line I'm bringing to this campaign for polish. It's the exact skill set DPSCD needs right now: someone who knows how to read a contract, audit a system, and hold a vendor accountable to a standard.
This campaign isn't about what's wrong. It's about building what's missing: safer food systems, real literacy access, and an actual front door for the Detroit organizations that have been trying to help our schools for years and couldn't get an answer.
We can keep arguing online about what's broken, or we can be part of the change. I'm choosing the second one.
The Plan
Every DPSCD student deserves food that's nutritious, safe and reliably stored.
I've spent my career managing food, beverage, and vendor contracts. I know what a safe kitchen looks like, and I know what an aging contract looks like.
I'll push for a full audit of district food vendor contracts and cafeteria storage standards, and advocate for quality, not just cost, in every procurement decision.
Food Access & Safety
Literacy is a kitchen-table issue in my house.
I'll advocate for every DPSCD school to have a fully staffed, functioning library, not just a room with books and push for family literacy access that extends beyond the school day, so reading support doesn't stop at the last school bell.
Literacy & Libraries for All
Detroit organizations have submitted proposals to bring free programming into our schools and too many have gone unanswered.
This isn't a failure of will, it's a capacity problem.
I'll push for a standardized intake process, a published response-time standard, and public transparency on every partnership proposal, so no organization ready to serve our kids gets lost in a black hole.
